Archive Room | Black Mesa

Archive_Room_Cover_Youtube

Archive Room is a visual ambiance project I created on the theme of Black Mesa, a symbolic location in the Half-Life universe. The project consisted of highlighting a 1984 Macintosh computer in the center of a 3D scene in the Black Mesa research facility.

I had created the Macintosh well before I started the project, and I intended to use it to create something special. I wanted to stop illustrating my 3D assets on 360 videos, and I felt like creating a cinematic scene and telling a little story.

I created all the assets with Blender and Substance Painter during my Twitch streams, and it was enjoyable to do.

I am quite satisfied with the result, except for some compression issues with YouTube. I think these issues are due to insufficient quality during the final render, which created artifacts and reduced resolution. Unfortunately, I realized this too late, and the rendering time to redo was too long for this small project.

Archive Room allowed me to progress on several aspects of my work. I learned to create more cinematic scenes, and I improved my rendering skills. I also learned to better use Blender and Substance Painter.

I hope you will enjoy this small project, and I am eager to continue with other creations.
